As Arsenal head to Leicester City, memories of one of the Premier League ’s most dramatic games come flooding back. Much has changed since the Gunners headed up to the Midlands to take on the Foxes on August 23, 1997.
For a start, Leicester now play at the King Power Stadium, rather than Filbert Street. But Dennis Bergkamp’s iconic hat-trick, the only one he scored in the Premier League, remains etched in the history books.
For Arsenal it was a spell-binding example of the Dutch genius who dazzled opposing defences. What should have been Bergkamp’s night of unrivalled glory, however, was soured by a late Leicester equaliser to snatch a 3-3 draw and leave him with mixed emotions.
