The Premier League have announced new positive Covid-19 tests have more than doubled over the past week, in the wake of the spreading Omicron variant.
A raft of fixtures were postponed over the weekend, including Manchester United’s clash with Brighton, with only four of the 10 scheduled fixtures going ahead on Saturday and Sunday — including Manchester City’s game at Newcastle.
Games further down the pyramid have also been falling victim, but the Christmas games on Boxing Day and December 27th look set to go ahead.
The Premier League have stepped up their efforts in order to try and keep the spread of the virus under control, with "Emergency Measures" seeing players and club staff now taking daily lateral flow tests and twice-weekly PCR
