The 27-year-old arrived this month as a free agent, and Wanderers' fifth signing of the summer, following his release from the League One club.
Aimson - formerly of Bury and Blackpool - turned out 46 times for Plymouth last season but was let go by Ryan Lowe this month.
The versatile defender joins fellow new recruits Oladapo Afolayan, Declan John, George Johnston and Josh Sheehan at Bolton and manager Ian Evatt was pleased to add someone with his speed, mobility and promotion-experience.
