Police department mistakenly sends out 'Batman' alert to mobile phones

Batman after a police force sent out an urgent warning to look out for the Joker's car. An emergency alert sent bythe Missouri State Highway Patrol to automatically appear on mobile phones in the area was addressed to the residents of the fictional 'Gotham City' from the comic book and film series.

In the fake warnings, traffic cops also described a purple and green 1978 Dodge 3700 GT car that closely resembled those used by the famous super villain Joker and his gang in the 1989 film 'Batman', where he is portrayed by legendary actor Jack Nicholson.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol later ended the confusion after confirming that these were the result of an error in the warning system, posting on Twitter : "This was meant to be a test message, THERE WAS NO ALERT" They later revealed that an option to send the message out to the public had accidentally been selected during a test.

A news release read: "Today, a routine test of Missouri’s Blue Alert system was inadvertently sent to wireless devices statewide.
