Platinum Jubilee weekend is on the cards with a two-week sizzler forecast from next weekend.Rain, wind and thunder this week will give way to a 10-day blast of summer with temperatures hitting 25C – and some parts could even see 30C.But those in Scotland and the North should keep brollies and jumpers ready today as thermometers nosedive. The South will cling on to the warmth, which could trigger the odd thunderstorm, experts warn.

James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather, said: “There is the potential for a major spell of summer to develop over seven to 10 days during late May and into early June. “Temperatures could reach the mid-20Cs at the very least.

But before then, there will be some gloomy weather and widespread showers.”Those downpours will be driven by supercharged jet stream ploughing across Britain. The Met Office’s Dan Rudman said: “The strengthening of the jet stream increases the chances of low-pressure systems developing over the Atlantic.”But the extended Platinum Jubilee weekend looks promising for sun-lovers and bookies shortened the odds for a blistering bank holiday, with Coral offering 1-2 from 5-4 on temperatures hitting 30C.The nationwide sunshine will blaze back this weekend as preparations gather pace.
