Planners knock back applications for outdoor washing machines in Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock. The controversial launderettes have been popping up in residential streets around the town in recent months.But it quickly emerged the firm behind the Revolution Laundry machines – Photo-Me – were not allowed to place them on streets.

In December, we revealed that the al-fresco launderette did not have permission to be based at Hill Street in the town and East Ayrshire Council bosses threatened to remove the structure.

This week, East Ayrshire planners refused planning permission for both the Hill Street structure and another at Cameron Drive in New Farm.Locals were in a spin after the first few machines were installed late last year.Mrs Jennifer Wilson said on the Hill Street application: "It is an absolute eyesore and destroys.
