Plane carrying German national football team makes emergency landing at Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport this morning. According to FlightRadar, the squad's charter jet declared an emergency mid-air.It was heading from Reykjavik in Iceland to Frankfurt and took off following the team's 4-0 win last night in a World Cup qualifying game.

However, it instead diverted over the top of Scotland and came to land at Edinburgh Airport after squawking, which is when the pilot declares an emergency on board.

Flight plans showed the Klasjet flight KLJ2703 making an abrupt turn between Dundee and Arbroath and rapidly descending. It is understood the plane landed safely in Edinburgh at about 4am.The team's official Twitter account announced they had to make a stopover "as a precaution in Edinburgh."It also read: "Safety first.
