Piers Morgan has launched a blistering attack on one of the UK’s most popular shows - Love Island. So repelled was he by it, he claimed it has killed his brain cells and “hastened his actual death”.

It was so appalling to him after he accidentally tuned in, it actually transfixed him and Piers ended up watching the show for a full 13 minutes The mouthy broadcaster said: “They were the longest 780 seconds of my life, and I fear, by far the most destructive.”He went on to blast the contestants, calling Luca Bish a “stupefyingly gormless 23-year-old fishmonger from Brighton” and mocking Welshman Liam Llewellyn for thinking that Elton John was actually two people.

He also asked Gemma Owen how she keeps her 12 horses in her house. Piers slammed the “cerebrally challenged intake” and their “cretinous bed-hopping antics” and said that compared to the Platinum Jubilee weekend - which showed the best of British - Love Island is the exact opposite.

In his column for The Sun, Piers said: “Nothing so perfectly epitomises this ghastly, fraudulent, breathtakingly ignorant assault on our senses that sends such a diabolically damaging message to Britain’s youth about how to behave and succeed in life.“But then the lure of influencer Instagram fame over a real job is increasingly potent.“Why bother saving lives for a meagre salary when you can make an a*se of yourself on TV, become a low-rent celebrity and make £10,000 a pop opening new branches of Aldi?”Piers, 57, went on to say he feels sorry for footballer Michael Owen having to witness his daughter, Gemma, 19, go through Love Island.
