If you know her all too well, you can probably intuit the answer to that one even before we tell you? It’s 13… of course. But there are many other burning questions about the ballot that has gone out to Recording Academy members where the answers are not so easily guessed, and we’re here to clear up some of those mysteries. The annual intrigue often centers on which categories certain genre-straddling artists ended up submitting their material in… or where that material got shifted sometimes against the artists’ wishes, as we’ve seen already this year with Nicki Minaj very vocally objecting to having “Super Freaky Girl” moved from a rap category to pop.

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic The top spots on the respective U.S. album and singles charts remain as they were last week, with Bad Bunny holding the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 for a 13th non-consecutive week and Steve Lacy claiming the top song for a second week in a row. No surprises there, but at least there was some fresh blood in the No. 2 positions. A new album from hard rock veterans Slipknot debuted in second place. And on the Billboard Hot 100, a duet by Sam Smith and Kim Petras, “Unholy,” showed surprising strength in moving up to No. 2 after debuting well one spot behind that last week. Billboard points out that Bad Bunny is within striking distance of a record on the album chart, or at least a recent record. His 13 weeks on top with “Un Verano Sin Ti” have the album tied for the most weeks spent by an album at No. 1 in the last decade; he’s currently on par with Drake’s “Views” and the “Frozen” soundtrack. If he reaches No. 1 next week, he’ll singular own the record for most weeks spent on top over the last 10 years. But if we go back more than a decade, he still has a way to go to surpass Adele’s “21,” which spent 24 nonconsecutive weeks leading the chart in 2011-12.

Earlier this week Kanye West launched his Season 9 show at Paris Fashion Week. The runway show was notable for Ye's decision to wear a T-shirt with the phrase "White Lives Matter" emblazoned on the back.

Thania Garcia After spending four weeks at No. 2, Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit” earns the 24-year-old his first Hot 100 No. 1, knocking out Harry Styles and “As It Was” from their extensive 15-week stay at the summit. “Bad Habit” comes from Lacy’s sophomore album “Gemini Rights,” his first top 10 album on the Billboard 200. “Static” from the same set currently holds a No. 78 peak, while his 2017 track “Dark Red,” also rises 95-79 in its second week on the chart. “Bad Habit” raked in 20.4 million streams and 40.3 million radio airplay audience impressions, according to Billboard. In an Instagram caption celebrating the occasion, Stacy wrote: “July 11th was my first entry at 100 and today oct 3rd my first entry at #1. Wow oh wow. I feel heavy gratitude all over my body. U know how the story goessss and how it’s goin. Iphone boy to superstar.”

Thania Garcia Blackpink makes history on this week’s chart with its sophomore set, “Born Pink,” the first album from an all-female group to hit No. 1 since Danity Kane’s “Welcome to the Dollhouse” in 2008. “Born Pink” moved an equivalent of 102,000 album units in its first week of release in the U.S., in the week ending Sept. 22, according to Luminate via Billboard. The feat also marks the quartet’s first No. 1 on the Billboard 200, although 2020’s full-length debut “The Album” came close with a close No. 2 high. The eight-track set also debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart with 75,500 copies sold. Most of these sales come from collectible CD packages and digital album sales.

Summer 2022’s dance music domination continues this week, as David Guetta and Bebe Rexha’s collaboration I’m Good (Blue) surges to the summit.

Steve Lacy has added a few concert dates at the end of 2022 in the United Kingdom and the European Union for his ongoing Give You The World Tour. He'll play shows in London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Berlin in December.

Thania Garcia Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti” has clinched another nonconsecutive week at No. 1 — it’s 11th time at the top spot out of 19 weeks since its release. Not since Drake’s “Views” logged 13 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 in 2016 had a similar feat been reached. Both “Views” and “Un Verano’s” runs were nonconsecutive, however, Bad Bunny has yet to slip below a No. 2 slot. “Un Verano” enters with the equivalent of 97,000 album sales in the U.S., according to Luminate via Billboard. Harry Styles also accomplishes a historic mark of 14 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, the longest stay at No. 1 since Lil Nas X’s chart-topping “Old Town Road,” feat. Billy Ray Cyrus, logged 19 weeks in 2019. Out of its 24 weeks on the chart, “As It Was” currently holds the record for the most weeks spent in the Hot 100’s top two positions with 23 weeks.

The feat marks John’s 29th top 10 song and Spears’ 14th, and her first in almost 10 years. “Hold Me Closer” — a reimagined mash-up of John’s “Tiny Dancer” and “The One” — opens with 20.9 million in radio airplay audience, 11.1 million streams and 48,000 sold, according to data by Luminate via Billboard. “Hold Me Closer” is Spears’ first time on the Billboard Hot 100 since 2016. Joining Spears on the chart, 20 years after both of their debuts, is Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul” which slips 5-9 after it spent two weeks at the peak in August.

In the past few days you might have seen a viral image doing the rounds that shows a series of large sacks in the Times Square Gap store with the tweeter explaining that they were filled with clothes from Kanye West's Yeezy Gap line.
