The Beautiful People became a BBC series starring Olivia Coleman, has written a new book about the late artist Keith Haring, based on their shared time together in the creative hubbub that was downtown New York in the 80s. “I lived through it, so I didn’t see it objectively,” says 68-year old British-born Doonan, who started his career in the unglamorous environs of a department store in Reading before the bright lights of window dressing on Savile Row came calling. After a stint at Maxfield in LA, a high-end fashion store, he landed at Barneys in New York in 1978.“It was only in the process of writing this book that I could see what an incredible period it was.
