North Ayrshire has dealt a further blow to the SNP's standing at the council.The Nationalists held the Dalry and West Kilbride seat until Joy Brahim resigned from the post in May this year.But Conservative candidate Ronnie Stalker returned almost twice as many votes as SNP candidate Robyn Graham.Mr Stalker has now been elected as one of the councillors for the ward after securing 2,016 votes while Ms Graham received 1,292.North Ayrshire Council's ruling Labour administration was also dealt a huge blow with candidate Valerie Reid receiving just 305 votes.Scottish Liberal Democrats' Ruby Kirkwood amassed 58 votes and James McDaid of the Socialist Labour Party secured 57 with independent Jim Willis taking 42 votes following the vote

North Ayrshire Council.Joy Brahim stepped down from her seat in the Dalry and West Kilbride ward on May 14 four years after she was elected as councillor for the area.Residents will now get the chance to vote for her successor on August 12.Returning Officer Craig Hatton said: “This by-election has come quickly after the Scottish Parliament Elections so we are very well prepared to hold the vote and count.”Voting will open for residents at 7am on August 12 and polling places will remain open until 10pm.The count, which is carried out electronically for local elections, will be held the following day, Friday, August 13.Residents have until midnight on Monday, July 26, to register in time to vote in the election.

North Ayrshire Council.It was announced by the local authority this evening that Joy Brahim has tendered her resignation.No reason has been given for the Ms Brahim's exit from the council.In a statement, Ms Brahim said she was "grateful to everyone" she'd worked with since she was elected in 2017.She added: "I am grateful to everyone I have worked with and for over the past four years to serve the Dalry & West Kilbride ward, including constituents and community groups, council officers, and fellow councillors.
