A man has died after a collision involving his Mercedes Benz and a JCB tractor on a Scots road on Wednesday. The 78-year-old's Mercedes Benz A250 hatchback collided with the tractor at around 5.05pm on January 12 on the A96 at Auldearn.

Emergency services, including a rapid response ambulance, rushed to the incident and the road was closed.Sadly, the Mercedes driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity has not been released by police. The tractor driver was uninjured. Following the smash, east of Nairn in the Highlands, police kept the road closed for over eight hours as they investigated.

Officers have now issued an appeal for information as they seek to ascertain the circumstances of the collision.Members of the public who witnessed the collision, or may have captured it on their dashcams, are asked to get in touch.
