Pedestrian, 73, in hospital with 'life-threatening' injuries after being hit by car in Scots village

Borders village. The woman was walking on North Hermitage Street in Newcastleton at around 3.55pm on Tuesday when she was hit by a grey Toyota Avensis.

She was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment to life-threatening injuries, police said.

She remains in a critical condition at the hospital.The road was closed for around-six-and-a-half hours for a collision investigation.Inspector Andrew Gibb, of Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit, said: "A woman has sustained serious injuries as a result of this crash and we are appealing to members of the public who may have any information that could help with our investigation."The area would have been busy at the time of the incident and we would ask if anyone.
