Rob Cross was “very unlucky” to miss out on selection from the Premier League to Joe Cullen.Cullen has been included in the eight players who compete in the Premier League, alongside Gary Anderson, Michael Smith, Peter Wright, Gerwyn Price, Michael van Gerwen, James Wade and Jonny Clayton.The 32-year-old owes his selection to his excellent recent form, which saw him win back-to-back Pro Tour titles with victory at Players Championship 4 in Wigan on the weekend.
Cross won the European Championship in October and admitted recently in an interview with Oche180.com that he was “gutted and devastated” to miss out and slammed the decision-making process as “ruthless”.
Porter has now explained that process, which sees the top four players in the rankings and four others picked by the PDC complete the line-up.Cross believed that winning a “major TV tournament” would qualify him, but Porter has confirmed that such a criteria doesn’t exist, because there are 11 PDC televised tournaments – too many to whittle down. “Rob has been very unlucky.
