It had been understood last week that Fonseca was ready to accept the chance to replace Steve Bruce at Newcastle after Frank Lampard had cooled his interest in the role.However, the Magpies remain without a new manager almost two weeks after Bruce was dismissed by the club's new owners after a loss to Spurs.They could now face competition for Fonseca after Spurs sacked Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday morning after a poor start to the season.Fonseca was set to speak at the Web Summit Sportstrade conference in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon on Tuesday this week but has pulled out of the event a day before.His withdrawal from the event comes as Spurs sacked Nuno and Newcastle.
