According to Goal, Arsenal have this Monday indicated that they are willing to pay the Atletico Madrid midfielder's release clause of £46million.
The north London club are also organising having the player complete his medical in Spain to speed up the process. Merson was asked for his thoughts on Arsenal's latest transfer venture, and admitted he is delighted the midfielder is available for so cheap.
