The 35-year-old defender came through the Carrington academy as a youngster before having a successful career with the likes of West Brom, Sunderland, Hull City and Reading.
McShane was a free agent after his contract at League Two side Rochdale expired at the end of last season. However, it was announced on Friday that he had rejoined United as a player-coach for the upcoming season as he works towards earning his badges.
