Patrice Evra and Thierry Henry were left shocked as Michael Carrick announced his departure from Manchester United. The former midfielder took charge of United for a final time as they beat Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford, with incoming interim manager Ralf Rangnick watching on from the stands.
Carrick stepped into the breach following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking, and went on to pick up two wins and a draw from his three games in charge as United rediscovered a bit of form.
Having been part of the coaching staff since Jose Mourinho’s time in charge at the club, Carrick had been expected by many to be staying on under Rangnick, who will now take charge after having his work visa processed.
