Amanda Owens and her brood have found fame on Channel 5 reality hit Our Yorkshire Farm. But many fans would be surprised to know that Amanda - who seems at home on 2,000-acre Ravenseat Farm in Upper Swaledale, which is home to 1,000 sheep, 40 cows, six dogs and four ponies - originally hails from Huddersfield.
The 46-year-old was inspired to leave the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire for greener pastures after falling in love with the great outdoors after reading James Herriot books.
Her fondness for literature also led to her embarking on the unconventional career of becoming a shepherdess after diving into a library book about a hill shepherd.
