One of Britain's richest men worth £11bn wanted to buy Chelsea off Roman Abramovich

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, 68, is worth £11.4billion, making him one of the richest people in Britain and the 113th wealthiest person on the planet.His net worth narrowly eclipses that of Blues owner Abramovich, yet it's the Russian who still owns the west London club.

Ratcliffe, whose affluence comes from his multi-national chemicals company INEOS, has been linked with a takeover in recent years.

The INEOS group even held preliminary talks with Chelsea bosses about launching a bid for the club. But according to Ratcliffe's brother Bob, who runs the football division of INEOS, those plans hit the buffers almost straight away.
