It is getting on for three years since Wigan Warriors Oliver Gildart began to seriously emerge on the radar of NRL clubs. He had just won his second Super League Grand Final when the call came from Wayne Bennett to make his England debut in a Test match against New Zealand at Hull’s KCOM Stadium.
Gildart’s searing 50-metre run past Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Isaac Liu, en-route to scoring a glorious matchwinning try, confirmed he was a talent worth keeping an eye on.
