The officer thankfully suffered only 'minor injuries' and is receiving medical treatment, Greater Manchester Police said. The driver of the car, believed to be a Ford Focus, was taken to hospital as a precaution, the force added.
No further information about their conditions has been released. Photographs taken at the scene in Milnrow, Rochdale, show the liveried Greater Manchester Police van with damage to its front.
The bumper was shown hanging off. GMP confirmed the van was answering a 999 'emergency request' for assistance from North West Ambulance Service at the time.
