New Music Friday: Stream new projects from Fever Ray, Nia Archives, MSPAINT, and more

The battle to takeover Manchester United rumbles on this week following the drama of the last few days.

In a Broadway season that might be remembered for a lovely, pared-down minimalism – the intriguing starkness of A Doll’s House with Jessica Chastain, the less-is-more near-concert-style presentations of Into the Woods and Parade – director Thomas Kail’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street will stand out for, among many other attributes, its full-on, unabashed ambition. A prodigious theatrical event that aims for greatness and achieves it, this revival of the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler masterpiece is not to be missed.

James Gunn is now running things at DC alongside Peter Safran but he has one final film at Marvel with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Word is out that the runtime for the third installment will be the longest of the trilogy clocking in at about two and a half hours.

EXCLUSIVE: In one of the wildest book rights auctions the town has seen in some time, Warner Bros. production co-heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy tonight landed screen rights to the upcoming T.J. Newman novel Drowning: The Rescue Of Flight 1421. Studio paid $1.5 million against $3 million, and there were five seven-figure bids on the table, sources said.

Naveen Kumar The cannibalist startup in “Sweeney Todd” kills two birds: For Sweeney, the ruined barber who holds a grudge as steadily as he does a blade, it means turning enemies into actual mincemeat. For Mrs. Lovett, who laments that alley cats were too quick and meager to carve up anyway — well, it’s a living, innit love?  Slitting throats and baking bodies into pies is a wild and wicked business. But in the stately and star-filled revival of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s macabre 1979 musical that opened on Broadway Sunday night, the people-to-pastries pipeline quickly assumes a grim air of mundanity.  For its stars Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford, this lushly orchestrated and opera-scale production, from “Hamilton” director Thomas Kail, proves a magnificent showcase for their respective, jaw-dropping talents. Groban’s weighted-blanket baritone makes the prospect of reclining in his company and never waking up again seem like a great way to go. And Ashford’s fleet, agile instinct for comedy, which earned her a Tony Award for “You Can’t Take It With You,” is like a dippy bird for dopamine. But only one of them is a genuine thrill.

If you needed another reason not to get on Karin Dreijer’s bad side, look no further than “Even It Out.” The deliciously venomous cut from Radical Romantics, their brand new third studio album as Fever Ray, comes with a music video that ups the ante considerably. “This is for Zacharias / Who bullied my kid in high school,” Dreijer sings, their voice pulsing with an anger that’s crossed over into deranged ecstasy. “There’s no room for you / And we know where you live.” The song’s disturbing nature is belied by its ultra-catchiness, its anthemic and arena-ready instrumental, and the woo-hoos Dreijer injects into the track at key points (often after an especially maniacal lyric).

Miley Cyrus kicked off her endless summer vacation, albeit a few months early, with a star-studded soiree to celebrate the release of her eighth studio album.The 30-year-old «Flowers» singer arrived Thursday night arm in arm with boyfriend Maxx Morando dressed to the nines as they sauntered into Gucci's Osteria da Massimo Bottura (that's Gucci House's fancy talk for contemporary Italian restaurant) in Beverly Hills. It was a rare public appearance for Cyrus and the Lilly rock band drummer, but it was very much warranted.Cyrus on Friday dropped, a 13-track album recorded in Los Angeles and produced with Mike WiLL Made-It, Greg Kurstin and GRAMMY Award-winning Album of the Year producers Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson.

Miley Cyrus has shared the official music video for her latest single, ‘River’ – you can watch it below.The track appears on the pop star’s eighth studio album ‘Endless Summer Vacation’, which came out today (March 10).Cyrus sings over pulsating synths: “Heart beats so loud that it’s drowning me out/ Living in an April shower/ You’re pouring down, baby, drowning me out/ You’re just like a river/ You go on forever/ You’re just like a river.”In the stylish black-and-white visuals, the singer dances under a spotlight on a raised, lit-up platform before she’s joined by a group of topless men. Later, water begins to rain on the performers as ‘River’ intensifies towards the end.Tune in here:Prior to dropping ‘River’, Cyrus described the tune as a “dancefloor banger” with a “nasty” sound.

Miley Cyrus has revealed that her eighth album ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ will be split into two parts, ‘AM’ and ‘PM’.The pop star is due to release the 11-song record this Friday (March 10) via Columbia – you can pre-order it here. She released the lead single from the project, ‘Flowers’, in January before posting the full tracklist last month.In a new video on social media, Cyrus offered fans some more information about the themes she explored on the forthcoming LP, which follows on from 2020’s ‘Plastic Hearts’.“When it comes to the sequencing of ‘Endless Summer Vacation’, I divided it by two parts, ‘AM’ and ‘PM’, to kind of represent almost an act,” she explained in the clip.“The ‘AM’ to me is representing the morning time, where there’s a buzz and an energy and there’s a potential of new possibilities. It’s a new day.”As for the ‘PM’ part, the singer said: “At nighttime, it feels like there’s a slinky, seediness and kind of a grime but a glamour at the same time.
