Peermusic and the UK company that controls music created by the late Malcolm McLaren have sued Sony Music Publishing in a dispute over an interpolation in Lizzo track ‘About Damn Time’.In its chorus, Lizzo’s 2022 hit interpolates an element of ‘Hey! DJ’, a 1984 release by The World’s Famous Supreme Team, which was co-written by McLaren. The copyright in that song was split between McLaren, producer Stephen Hague, and the two members of The World’s Famous Supreme Team, Larry Price and Ronald Larkins.According to a new lawsuit filed with the New York courts, reps for Lizzo approached Peermusic – which administrates McLaren’s catalogue – to clear his share of the copyright in relation to the interpolation.

The long awaited trial over whether or not Ed Sheeran ripped off Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get It On’ when he wrote his song ‘Thinking Out Loud’ finally gets underway in New York later today. This follows the jury selection process yesterday.Originally scheduled to commence in November 2020, but delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sheeran is accused of infringing the copyright of late songwriter Ed Townsend, who co-wrote the Gaye classic.

Supervisjón is a project from musician Lasse Jæger in which he explores the intricacies of modern life through experimental electronic music. Drawing inspiration from Kraftwerk and the footwork genre, in his debut single ‘At Telda’ he ponders the relationship between humans and computers via nonsense lyrics provided by fellow Faroese creator, poet Lív Maria Róadóttir Jæger.“Telda in Faroese means computer”, Jæger explains of the track’s title.
