NASA has confirmed that it is officially looking into reports of UFOs after a rise in sightings inspired by a decline in stigma.

The decline in stigma came after the first public congressional hearing on 'Unidentified Aerial Phenomena' (UAP) in the US in 54 years this month. The US also has a new task force for tracking unidentified aerial phenomena (or UAPs, commonly known as UFOs) working out of the Pentagon, meaning that reports - old and new - are now being looked at.

NASA is ramping up its efforts to help the new investigation team, the Daily Mail reported.A spokesperson confirmed the body is "evaluating how to provide our expertise in space-based Earth observations to improve understanding of UAPs" and "has consulted with multiple government entities."The source added that NASA's work will complement the Department of Defense's UAP task force."'It's going to be some sort of working group that will help support the DoD," the source said. "It's looking to be complementary."For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletter by clicking here."I suspect it will be a combination of efforts that will include perhaps firsthand eyewitness testimony of NASA employees and astronauts, and then perhaps a review of old archival footage to assess if there are some findings within the NASA archives that can help AOIMSG," the source added, referring to the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group, the DoD's official UFO task force.
