A pregnant woman who lived above serial killer Dennis Nilsen vanished at the height of his murder spree, newly released files disclose.
Nilsen is believed to have murdered and burned or dismembered up to 15 victims, but only seven have ever been identified. He targeted vulnerable and isolated victims and most were homeless or jobless young men or boys between 1978 and 1983.
Official papers reveal a young woman who lived above Nilsen’s flat at 195 Melrose Avenue, Cricklewood, north west London, suddenly stopped collecting benefit payments in 1981.
Detectives later discovered that a number of the bodies had been burnt in the garden of the flat. He is suspected of killing 12 people while living there.
