A 23-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly throwing her newborn baby from a window after giving birth. Sabita Dookram faces seven charges as the infant fights for his life in New York.

Police sources told the New York Post that the child was thrown from a window shortly after he was born in a bathtub. The little boy was found naked attached to his umbilical cord outside a home in Queens, New York, on Sunday, investigators said.

He was found by a neighbour at around 10.15am, and it is believed he was born on Saturday night. Dookram has been charged with attempted murder, attempted manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, abandonment of a child and acting in a manner to injure a child.
