Motorist who overtook ambulance and smashed into lamppost was a driving instructor

motorist who ploughed into a lamppost, after trying to overtake an ambulance, turned out to be a driving instructor. The crash came as a result of a vehicle trying to overtake an ambulance while driving round a bend.

Greater Manchester Police were called to the scene, just off the M61 on Watergate Lane in Bolton, after being alerted by the ambulance service. Pictures from the scene showed debris from the car along the road's pavement with the lamppost taken completely out of the ground.One photo showed extensive damage to the front of the car at the point of impact, with the windscreen badly damaged.No injuries were reported following the crash.Police were able to confirm that the driver of the vehicle was a private driving instructor who was reported after the collision. A GMP Traffic spokesman said: "NWAS called on our patrols for assist at RTC earlier today (Water Gate Lane)."Vehicle over took ambulance on a bend and took out a lamppost.
