Moffat Mountain Rescue Team has been given a helping hand from Dumfries community champion Ewan Fraser. The popular businessman saw his latest fundraising efforts at his Toll Bar shop in New Abbey Road pay off on Thursday when he handed over £500 to the team’s James Coles and Matthew McFadzean.Cash raised from people spending five pence on carrier bags at the store as well as donations, book sales and a tombola have all contributed to the total.Ewan said: “This is the first time we have been able to help the Moffat Mountain Rescue Team who do an amazing job in saving lives and rely on public donations to fund all their equipment, base and vehicles.

Everyone at the Toll Bar is really happy to have been able to give them £500.“The staff have been fantastic in fund-raising and we also generated some of the cash from providing some parking for the Youth Beatz event.“We all wish the MMRT well and hope more people help them with fundraising and donations.”Ewan and his wife, Maureen’s fundraising in recent years has seen a potentially life-saving defibrillator installed outside the shop for public use, a new public noticeboard, cash aid for the Nith Inshore Rescue and other local worthy causes – including Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes. They have also been generous and loyal supporters of the Standard’s Christmas Toy Appeal.
