The Egypt international's previous spell at Chelsea in 2014 didn't quite scream success, and many questioned why Liverpool would fork out for him.The Reds tried to secure his signing back in 2013 before he decided to move to Stamford Bridge.

And apparently it was former transfer chief Michael Edwards who played a key role.Edwards, who was Liverpool's sporting director until this summer and was widely credited with building the current side, is reported to have watched him train for Roma during extensive background checks on the winger.
