More than 29million people who purchased an Apple or Samsung smartphone in the past six years could be entitled to a pay-out, an investigation has found.
Consumers could be owed a collective £482million in damages from multibillion-dollar tech giant Qualcomm, Which? said. The consumer group is raising a legal battle against Qualcomm, alleging that it broke competition laws which resulted in higher prices for consumers.
Which? said Qualcomm breached regulations by taking advantage of its dominance in the patent-licensing and chipset markets. As a result, the company was able to charge manufacturers like Apple and Samsung inflated fees for technology licences, which were then passed on to consumers in the form of higher smartphone prices.
