Mike Tyson wanted to 'kill' Evander Holyfield when he bit rival’s ear off during fight

Mike Tyson has revealed the reason he bit off part of Evander Holyfield’s ear during their infamous clash in 1997 – because he "wanted to kill” his opponent.

The two fighters went head-to-head twice during their careers, with both meetings coming back-to-back in the mid-1990s. Holyfield won the first encounter courtesy of an 11th round knockout, only for Iron Mike to trigger a rematch, which took place just over six months later.

The Real Deal won that as well, but in surreal circumstances, after Tyson was disqualified for ripping off a section of Holyfield’s ear – not once, but twice.

Tyson, now 54, has revealed what was going through his head during the heat of the moment. Speaking to Fox News, he said: “I bit him because I wanted to kill.
