Michael van Gerwen faces a spell on the sidelines due to injury and will miss the World Cup of Darts as a result.The three-time world champion has announced he has been diagnosed with Carpel Tunnel Syndrome and will have an operation immediately after the Premier League play-offs in Berlin on June 13, when he will face James Wade in the semi-finals.
Carpel Tunnel Syndrome is pressure on a nerve in the wrist which can cause tingling, numbness and pain in the hand and fingers.With the World Cup in Frankfurt following just a few days later, Van Gerwen will miss the event, severely hampering the Netherlands’ chances of winning the trophy.
The Green Machine is hoping to be back in action, and at 100 per cent, for the World Matchplay in Blackpool, which begins on July 16.Van Gerwen took to social media to announce the shock news.
He posted: “For some time now I have been experiencing a tingling sensation in my throwing hand and arm. Following medical assessment, I was diagnosed with Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.“I have been receiving treatment for a while in order to ease the symptoms, enabling me to continue to play at a good level.
