England will renew rivalries with their old footballing foes when they take on the European giants in the Nations League in Munich on Tuesday night, almost 12 months on from the Three Lions' iconic Euro 2020 triumph over the same opponents at Wembley.

Goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane saw Gareth Southgate's side claim a memorable win over the Germans on that occasion, but it was by no means England's most famous success over their international enemy.Back in 2001, the Three Lions thumped Germany 5-1 on their own patch in one of the country's greatest ever results.

Owen was the hero on that fateful night in Munich and it's fair to say he didn't hold back in expressing his opinion of England's opponents during the half-time interval.Despite being dominated by the hosts for large periods of the first 45 minutes, Sven Goran Eriksson’s entered the break with a slender 2-1 advantage.

Owen cancelled out Carsten Jancker's early opener in the 12th minute, before a Steven Gerrard special deep into first-half stoppage time set England on track to claim a surprise away success in the high-profile 2002 World Cup qualifier. The Three Lions would go on to record one of the most remarkable results in their international history, but not before Owen made his thoughts on England's opponents clear to the rest of his team-mates.
