NBA legend Michael Jordan's 1984 endorsement deal with Nike birthed the iconic Air Jordan shoes, but he had to be persuaded to go with Nike over Adidas.
In ESPN's acclaimed docu-series 'The Last Dance', Jordan lifted the lid on the inner workings of the deal and how Adidas made one of the biggest blunders in sports marketing history.
During the show, Jordan is asked: "Do you have a shoe company that you wanted to go with?" "That was Adidas," Jordan replies and footage is then shown of a young Jordan praising Adidas and wearing their shoes. "I like the Lakers, I like Marques Johnson, and I like Adidas", he says. "I like Adidas shoes." Speaking in 2009, Jordan added: "The thing is I never wore Nike shoes until I signed a Nike contract.
