snowiest period of the cold snap is expected sooner rather than later. Jim Dale, a Senior British Weather Services meteorologist said to the Express that northern parts of the UK could experience two to three centimetres of snow and mountainous areas as much as 10cm.
He said: “Snow risks [are] heightening for northern areas,” and that they would be moving “beyond Scotland” and “piling up within Scotland itself”.The Met Office has released yellow weather warnings for much of Scotland on Wednesday, February 9, and Thursday, February 10.
Yellow weather warnings are in place from 4 pm until 11 am tomorrow, February 10. The weather forecaster has warned of the potential for "snow showers bringing some travel disruption", with "some roads and railways likely to be affected, leading to longer journey times by car as well as by bus and train services", and, "probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths"The warnings cover large portions of the highlands and central Scotland, although major cities Edinburgh and Glasgow fall just outside of it.
Scotland's snow will be oriented mostly towards the northwest, with the east coast of the country appearing to also dodge the warnings.
