Nomadland actress Melissa Yandell Smith has died at the age of 64, after a battle with colon cancer.She died at her home surrounded by family on September 7.
Her obituary in the New York Times reads: “She passed away quietly September 7, 2021 in her home in San Francisco surrounded by her husband, son, brother and friends.” Melissa appeared in the Academy Award winning movie Nomadland with Frances McDormand, who was her lifelong friend after meeting at Yale University.
In the film she played the role of Dolly, the sister of Frances’ character. According to her obituary, she stopped working last year due to her declining health.
