Mel C has opened up about her eating disorder battle during the Spice Girls’ heyday and recalls feeling ‘hopeless’. The Wannabe singer – full name Melanie Chisholm – has used her past ordeal as inspiration for her new single Who I Am, which appears on her new solo album.

Sharing her personal battle, the pop star explained to Australia’s Stellar magazine: ‘When I was with the Spice Girls I found it very hard to deal with being scrutinised, being photographed constantly, people commenting on the way you look, the way you speak, your personality and the way you dress. ‘I started exercising obsessively, I stopped eating properly and I began to become very, very ill.
