Meghan Markle surprised Royal fans when they realised she had used a different name on her daughter Lilibet 'Lili' Diana's birth certificate to that of their eldest son Archie's.
On Lilibet's birth certificate, TMZ reported that Meghan was listed as "Rachel Meghan Markle", her legal birth name. But on Archie's birth certificate Meghan is listed as "Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex".The different name was not in fact up to Meghan but was because she was no longer a member of the Royal Family when Lilibet was born.
Early in 2021, a spokesperson for Meghan released a statement that corrected reports that Meghan had requested her name be changed from her legal name to "Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex" on Archie's certificate.The spokesperson claimed the decision was "dictated by The Palace" and not the Duchess herself.“The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials,” the spokesperson said.
