Meghan Markle's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey cannot be compared to Princess Diana's with Martin Bashir, a royal expert has said.

There has been a huge fallout from the Duchess of Sussex speaking out about her time in the Royal Family with Prince Harry before they both left their duties with the family behind and moved to California.

While many drew parallels between Meghan and Harry's mother Diana, when she spoke out in 1995, author and royal biographer Pauline Maclaren has said that they are not comparable due to the Meghan and Diana's respective status in the Royal Family at the time.

Diana was the mother of the future king, while Meghan had "already left" the royals at the time they spoke out, Pauline has argued.
