Given joined City in 2009, as the club started to accumulate a squad capable of challenging for major prizes. Hughes was the man who brought in the Irishman.
He'd taken over from Sven-Goran Eriksson in the summer of 2008 and was under pressure to deliver after significant investment after one season in charge.
Given was part of a recruitment drive in 2009 which saw Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz, Kolo Toure and Joleon Lescott move to City.
