The proposal for a new Metrolink route - a discussion point among leaders for years - formed the centrepiece of the mayor's transport announcement as he marched into his second term with an increased majority and a vow to ‘deliver’ on buses, trams integration and bike hire.
But critics, including John Farrell, councillor for Higher Blackley, have questioned the impact of a route running from a spur either at Bowker Vale or Heaton Park, which they claim could disrupt the lives of residents in his ward, and in Prestwich.
