Matthew wrote about his father’s death in his memoirs, called Greenlights, which is set to be released on Tuesday 20 October.
In the snippet from the book, which was released by People Magazine, the actor described the moment his mother Mary called him to break the devastating news as he wrote: “I got a call from my Mom. ‘Your dad died.’ My knees buckled.
