Glamour, people typically said things to her like: “You’re glowing! You’re beautiful! You’ve never looked better!” Then, she gave birth. “The moment you have the baby it’s like ‘Okay, so…when do you think you’re going to get back on track?’" she says.
The idea that a person who just grew, housed, and labored with a baby should “bounce back,” McGrady says, is “absolutely toxic.” Instead, she's is focusing on things that feel precious, urgent. “I don’t have time to bounce back, nor do I really want to,” she says. “I’m learning my baby, learning my new body—which looks completely different than pre-baby and feels completely different.
