Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1969 or 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. Referred to as the "Songbird Supreme" by Guinness World Records, she is noted for her five-octave vocal range, melismatic singing style, and signature use of the whistle register.
She rose to fame in 1990 after signing to Columbia Records and releasing her eponymous debut album, which topped the U.S. Billboard 200 for eleven consecutive weeks. After the response from fans, the 50-year-old singer has revealed that she actually had big plans for the release of the record. Mariah shared with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show that she wanted to shoot a music video where she would disguise herself in costume and release it to the world – but it was nixed by her record label. “That got stifled by certain people at the label, so I kind of had to abandon the project,” Mariah says.
However, years after recording it, her fans are finally hearing it and Mariah is happy. “I’m kind of happy that, at this moment, the fans are actually hearing it,”
