New maps show the areas where coronavirus is spreading fastest - as a senior medical figure rejected calls for a circuit-breaker lockdown.
The graphics, presented at today's Number 10 press briefing, reveal that parts of the North West, North East and Midlands are experiencing the fastest growth in the virus.
It comes as Greater Manchester was today forced into Tier 3 - meaning businesses will be forced to close and people will be banned from mixing with other households - after talks between local leaders and Westminster broke down.
Lincolnshire has seen a particularly sharp rise in cases Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, England's deputy chief medical officer, said.
