Manchester United could be tempted to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to avoid missing out on a managerial target to Newcastle, according to Kevin Phillips.
The United boss again finds himself under pressure after defeats to Young Boys, West Ham and Aston Villa and a home draw with Everton across three competitions in recent weeks.
There remain no signs that Solskjaer's position is under threat as things stand, but the pool of possible candidates is expected to shortly become smaller as Newcastle look for a new manager.
Newly flush thanks to their Saudi-backed takeover, Newcastle are expected to sack current manager Steve Bruce this week, and the likes of Antonio Conte has been linked.
