The 30-year-old, who started the Euro 2020 final on Sunday night, has spent the last two seasons over in Spain at Atletico Madrid - helping them win the La Liga title last term.
Despite that success, though, the right-back is thought to be keen on a move back to the Premier League. United are credited with an interest in the former Burnley and Tottenham player - who has been capped 33 times since making his international debut in 2017.
