Rafael signed for Sir Alex Ferguson in 2008 alongside twin brother Fabio and, while his brother was mostly used sporadically at first-team level, he went on to make 170 appearances at Old Trafford, winning an array of silverware across his time at the club.
While Rafael arguably wasn't the most talented in Ferguson's squad, he became a cult hero among United supporters and he remained a fan favourite after joining Lyon in 2015, where he spent five years playing in France's first division.
