Manchester United missed out on primary transfer target Jadon Sancho this summer, but were compensated by the arrivals of a handful of South Americans.
Alex Telles, Facundo Pellistri and European goalscoring stalwart Edinson Cavani all joined the club late in the window. Ajax’s Donny van de Beek was an earlier addition and the Netherlands international already has his first goal from midfield, scoring the consolation in a 3-1 defeat by Crystal Palace.
United will be keen to avoid such a scenario where they leave their business until after the season has started once again, and will already be looking ahead to future transfer targets.
